It is the mission of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to safeguard the District of Columbia and protect its residents and visitors by providing the highest quality of police service with integrity, compassion, and a commitment to innovation that integrates people, technology and progressive business systems. The Metropolitan Police Department is responsible for apprehending and charging adult and juvenile criminals within the District. The top 5 causes for adult arrests that occurred this year are tracked at the District and ward level. This report is updated weekly.

ABOUT THE DATA

This report is based on the arrest data from the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) database maintained by the Metropolitan Police Department. The data reflects arrests made by all agencies in the District of Columbia. MPD makes over 90% of the arrests in the District. Adult data may include Title 16 cases. One person may be booked on more than one arrest charge. 2009 values represent year-to-date information.
